Discussions Underway on Reopening U.S. Embassy in Kabul and Afghan Embassy in Washington

KABUL: Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, has confirmed ongoing discussions regarding the reopening of the U.S. embassy in Kabul and the transfer of the Afghan embassy in Washington to the Taliban-led government.

Speaking to Al Arabiya, Mujahid stated that these topics were raised during a recent visit by an American delegation to Kabul. He noted that the Afghan government is now waiting for Washington’s response on the matter.

“The discussions over the Afghan embassy in the U.S. are in progress, marking the beginning of dialogue and mutual understanding,” Mujahid said. “The delegation that visited Kabul has returned to the U.S. with these proposals, and we are waiting to see what their next steps will be.”

Mujahid stressed that the Taliban administration considers the war with the U.S. a closed chapter and is focused on fostering diplomatic relations. He urged Washington to reopen its diplomatic mission in Kabul, emphasizing the importance of engagement between the two nations.

“We would like to see the U.S. embassy in Kabul resume operations to help establish trust and promote diplomatic ties,” he added. “Through such cooperation, both sides can work toward mutual interests.”
